Battery Care Tips

Motorola Two-way Battery Care Tips

Following these simple care instructions can help protect your rechargeable batteries and enhance their performance and useful life. Motorola brand rechargeable batteries are designed and precisely manufactured by Motorola to ensure optimum portable radio performance.

  1. Charge your new battery overnight before using it.
This is referred to as INITIALIZING and will enable you to obtain maximum battery capacity.

    1. Nickel Cadmium or Nickel Metal Hydride: 14-16 hours.
    2. Lithium Ion/Polymer: 1 to 2 additional hours after the charger light turns green.
  2. New Motorola IMPRES batteries, when inserted into a Motorola IMPRES charger, will indicate a calibration cycle by displaying a steady yellow indication on the charge status indicator. Allow this calibration process to complete by not removing the battery from the charger until it has completely charged and displays a steady green indication.
  3. In order to minimize capacity loss and cycle life reduction, new, NON INITIALIZED batteries must be stored in well ventilated, cool and dry locations. Batteries stored in these conditions may be stored:
    1. Nickel Cadmium up to 2 years.
    2. Nickel Metal Hydride up to 18 months.
    3. Lithium Ion/Polymer up to 18 months.
  4. If used batteries are to be removed from service for extended periods (greater than 30 days) they should be discharged to about 50% of their capacity before storage in a cool, dry location.
  5. Batteries which have been in storage for more than two months should be fully discharged and recharged.
    1. Nickel Cadmium or Nickel Metal Hydride: 14-16 hours.
    2. Lithium Ion/Polymer: 1 to 2 additional hours after the charger light turns green.
  6. When using a Motorola rapid charger, leave the battery in the charger for an additional 1 to 2 hours after the steady green light appears. (Applies to non-IMPRES batteries only.)
  7. Do not leave your radio and fully-charged battery in the charger when not charging. Continuous charging will shorten battery life. (Do not use charger as a radio stand.)
  8. Only charge a battery when it needs it. If it is not fully discharged, do not recharge it. We suggest that you carry a spare. This is the most cost-effective solution for users requiring longer operating time.
  9. Do not return fully charged non-IMPRES batteries to the charger for an “extra boost.”This action will significantly reduce cycle life. Repeated short cycle charging of non-IMPRES batteries will shorten battery life. (Do not use charger as a radio stand for non-IMPRES batteries.)
  10. Stabilize batteries to room temperature (72ºF) before charging. Charging below 40ºF and above 104ºF will decrease cycle life.

These simple care instructions help protect your rechargeable batteries from extreme charging temperatures and enhance their performance and useful life.

Use Motorola Original rechargeable batteries. They are designed and precisely manufactured by Motorola engineers to ensure optimum portable radio performance. It just makes good sense.

FMCSA & PHMSA COMMERCIAL DRIVER CELL PHONE BAN

Mobile Phone Restriction Rule For Commercial Motor Vehicle Drivers

The FMCSA and the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) have published rules specifically prohibiting interstate truck and bus drivers and drivers who transport placardable quantities of hazardous materials from texting or using hand-held mobile phones while operating their vehicles. The joint rules are the latest actions by the U.S. Department of Transportation to end distracted driving. Violations can result in fines and/or driver disqualifications and will impact a motor carrier’s and/or driver’s Safety Measurement System (SMS) results.

Overview And Background

The FMCSA rule restricts the use of all hand-held mobile devices by drivers of commercial motor vehicles (CMVs). This rulemaking restricts a CMV driver from holding a mobile device to make a call, or dialing by pressing more than a single button. CMV drivers who use a mobile phone while driving can only use a hands-free phone located in close proximity.

Fines, Penalties, And Disqualification

Using a hand-held mobile phone while driving a CMV can result in driver disqualification. Penalties can be up to $2,750 for drivers and up to $11,000 for employers who allow or require drivers to use a hand-held communications device while driving. Multiple violations of the prohibition of using a hand-held mobile phone while driving a CMV can result in a driver disqualification by FMCSA. Multiple violations of State laws prohibiting use of a mobile phone while driving a CMV is a serious traffic violation that could result in a disqualification by a State of drivers required to have a Commercial Drivers License.

We Can Help You Avoid Fines And Penalties And Comply

Motorola’s MOTOTRBO digital two-way radios are the preferred choice for businesses and organizations that need to safely and efficiently connect with their mobile workforce. MOTOTRBO complies with US DOT, FMCSA and PHMSA regulations.

IMPRES™ 2 Batteries

First responders, public works employees, and other professionals know that shifts aren’t getting any shorter. Thankfully, you can keep your people connected even longer. IMPRES 2 batteries deliver higher capacity without an increase in size. All IMPRES 2 batteries share the same IP68 rating as APX radios, which means they can be fully submersed in two meters of water for up to four hours. Designed with a rugged housing, they’re as tough as the radios they power. IMPRES 2 batteries, when combined with an IMPRES 2 charger, deliver 60% more charging cycles than traditional Lithium Ion batteries.
